Hot Water Attack: Unizik Student Injured Over Hostel Cleaning Dispute

A student of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (Unizik) in Awka, Anambra State, is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital after he was allegedly attacked with hot water and stabbed by a fellow student over a hostel cleaning dispute.

The victim, identified as Mark, is a third year student of Agricultural Economics and the president of Twins Fall Lodge, a hostel located in Ifite-Awka, where the incident occurred.

According to a Facebook post by Valentine Mbadugha, a witness, the assailant, identified as Chioma, is a second year student of the same university who resides in the same hostel.

Mbadugha said the attack happened on Saturday, February 17, 2024, around 8:00 pm, after Mark had reminded Chioma of her duty to join other residents in keeping the hostel clean.

He said Chioma, who was apparently angered by Mark’s reminder, boiled some water and poured it on Mark, causing him severe burns. She also stabbed him with a knife, leaving him with multiple wounds.

Mbadugha said Mark was rushed to a nearby hospital by some of his friends, where he is currently receiving medical attention.

He said Chioma fled the scene after the attack and has not been seen since then.

He appealed to the authorities of the university and the police to intervene and bring Chioma to justice.

He also urged other students to be careful and avoid unnecessary conflicts that could lead to violence.

The State Police Command’s Spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, could not confirm the incident as at the time of filing this report.

He said he would get back to our correspondent after making inquiries.
