Hunger: Tell Your Husband To Address Hunger Issues – Emir of Kano Begs Remi Tinubu

The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, has made a passionate appeal to the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, to convey the plight of Nigerians to President Bola Tinubu, especially on the issues of hunger, insecurity, and the controversial relocation of some federal agencies to Lagos.

The emir made the plea on Monday when the First Lady visited Kano to commission the faculty of law at Skyline University, a private institution owned by the Kano State Government.

Speaking through an interpreter, the emir said that the First Lady’s visit was a rare opportunity to voice out the concerns of the people, who are suffering from the effects of the economic downturn, the rising insecurity, and the perceived marginalization of the northern region.

He said, “Although we have several means of communicating to the government on our needs and requests, your way and means is the surest way to tell the President the actual happenings in the country. The hunger and starvation didn’t start with this government but the situation has become more alarming and needs urgent attention.”

He also urged her to tell the President to address the issue of insecurity, which he said was threatening the peace and stability of the country. He said, “The issue of insecurity is another serious problem we are facing. I know your government inherited it, but something more serious should be done to take care of the threats.”

The emir also expressed his displeasure over the relocation of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, and some departments of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to Lagos, saying that it was a sign of neglect and injustice to the northern region.

He said, “We are receiving a series of messages from our people. One such message is the much-talked-about relocation of CBN and FAAN to Lagos. I think the government should come out clean on this matter and talk to Nigerians in the language they would understand. Do more enlightenment on this matter. I for one cannot tell the actual intentions of the government. We should be made to understand the reasons behind the relocation of the CBN and FAAN offices to Lagos.”

He also commended the First Lady for her Renewed Hope Initiative Pet Program, which he said was a laudable initiative that would empower the less privileged and the vulnerable in society. He urged her to ensure that the program reaches the grassroots and benefits the people of Kano and other states.

The First Lady, in her response, thanked the emir for his warm reception and his candid remarks. She assured him that she would relay his message to the President and work with him to address the challenges facing the country.

She said, “I appreciate your honesty and sincerity in telling me the truth about the situation of things in the country. I will not fail to inform the President about your concerns and requests. I will also do my best to ensure that my pet program reaches the people who need it most. I believe that together, we can make Nigeria a better place for all.”
