I Agree With Burna, Only Few Of Us Make Music With Substance — Singer BNXN

BNXN, a Nigerian singer who was once signed to Burna Boy’s ‘Spaceship’ label, has backed Burna Boy’s claim that most Nigerian music today is empty. BNXN, whose real name is Daniel Benson, said this on Friday during an Instagram live session.

BNXN praised Burna Boy’s originality and said he also makes music with meaning. He said he relates to Burna Boy because they are different from others.

“When I hear him and I hear someone else, it’s clear he’s doing his thing, just like me.

“What we do here is unique, I swear. I said it.

“There are only a few of us who are real and who do this thing with substance and message in it,” BNXN said.

Burna Boy stirred controversy with his remark on Afrobeat in an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe on Tuesday.

The ‘I Told Them’ singer said, “90 per cent of them have no real-life experiences to understand. That’s why most of the Nigerian music or African music or Afrobeats as you call it, is about nothing, literally nothing. There’s no substance to it.”
