IMSU Lecturer Suspended for Allegedly Slapping an Indisposed Pregnant Student
The Imo State University has taken decisive action on May 2nd, after a lecturer was allegedly caught on camera slapping a pregnant student who had arrived late for his class.

The incident, which was also recorded on video, showed the lecturer, Desmond Izunwanne, issuing orders for other students to crawl out of the class.

The university’s spokesperson, Ralph Njokuobi, released a statement condemning the lecturer’s actions.

The statement described them as “barbaric and unbecoming” and added that the university had taken “immediate action” following the incident.

At a management meeting held on May 2nd, it was decided that the lecturer would be suspended, effective immediately.

The suspension will remain in place until a three-person disciplinary committee can investigate the matter, and unravel the “immediate and remote causes that led to his uncouth behaviour”.

The incident has garnered widespread attention, and the university has faced criticism for its handling of the situation.

Some students have called for stronger action to be taken against the lecturer, while others have praised the university for taking swift action.

In response, the university has reiterated its commitment to creating a safe and inclusive learning environment.

The statement from the university’s spokesperson went on to say: “The management of Imo State University remains committed to creating a conducive learning environment where all students can thrive.

We do not tolerate any form of harassment or abuse, and we will take swift action in any situation where our students are not treated with the respect and dignity they deserve.”

It remains to be seen how the disciplinary committee will rule on the matter.

However, the incident has sparked a wider conversation about the treatment of students by their lecturers, and has shone a spotlight on the need for universities to take proactive steps to prevent misconduct and ensure the safety and well-being of their students.
