India-Bound Passenger Who Swallowed 80 Wraps of Cocaine Gets Long-Term Imprisonment

In a landmark judgment, a Federal High Court has sentenced Freeman Charles Ogbonna, a drug trafficker, to 25 years in prison without an option of fine. Ogbonna was arrested by NDLEA operatives at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in March after ingesting 80 wraps of cocaine.

The Delhi, India-bound passenger, who vomited and excreted the drugs while in custody, claimed he was recruited by a relative and promised N300,000. However, his plan was foiled, and he was arraigned in court.

NDLEA Chairman, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), praised the judiciary and the prosecution team for their swift and diligent handling of the case. The conviction serves as a strong warning to drug barons and traffickers that there will be no hiding place for them.

This sensational case highlights the dangers of drug trafficking and the determination of Nigerian authorities to combat the scourge.
