Iranian football star Amir Nasr-Azadani faces the death penalty over human rights stance

According to a report credited to ‘Iranwire,’ 26-year-old Amir Nasr-Azadani, Iranian footballer, is facing a death sentence for showing support for women’s rights in the country.

The sentencing has not gone unnoticed by the International community, with FIFPro, the international player union condemning the sentencing.

A statement released by FIFPro says, “FIFPro is shocked and outraged by the reports that professional player Amir Nasr-Azadani is facing execution in Iran after campaigning for women’s rights and other fundamental freedoms in his country. We stand beside Amir, and we demand this sentence be thrown out immediately.”

In the same vein, Amnesty International has also decried the verdict calling on the international community to go to any lengths necessary to force the Iranian government to stop the execution of the death penalty.
