ISWAP Kills Boko Haram Commander In Borno

A notorious Boko Haram commander, Ali Gana Alhaji Ali, has been killed by rival fighters of the Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) in Borno State.

According to a security source, Ali was ambushed by the ISWAP fighters on Sunday on Gwoza hill in Gwoza Local Government Area of the state.

Ali was said to be in charge of the Sambisa and Gwoza enclaves of the Boko Haram terrorists, and was responsible for many killings and atrocities in the area.

“He was the deputy of the late Ali Ngulde, and apart from Shekau, nobody killed human beings like him from Sambisa forest and Bayan Dutsen Gwoza.

“He was a crude killer. His foot terrorists in Gwoza areas constantly instil fear on communities, farmers and commuters along Pulka, Bankin, Bama and Gwoza Mubi routes.

“They take no prisoners, people are slaughtered in their farms on a weekly basis. Gwoza people will surely celebrate his demise,” the source said.

The killing of Ali is another blow to the Boko Haram faction led by the late Abubakar Shekau, who blew himself up during a clash with the ISWAP fighters in May 2021.

The ISWAP fighters have been trying to take over the territories and resources of the Boko Haram terrorists, and have also intensified attacks on military and civilian targets in recent months.

The insecurity situation in Borno State has also affected the livelihoods of the people, especially farmers who have been targeted by the terrorists.

Last week, a member of the National Assembly representing Goza, Damboa and Chibok federal constituency, Usman Ahmed Jaha, lamented the killing of 10 farmers in 10 days in the Goza axis.

He also said that farmers were being killed on a daily basis in the area to scare them from harvesting their food crops.
