A defender of the Racing Abijan Club, Mustapha Sylla collapsed during a match against SOL FC on Sunday and died at the hospital the same day.

The Racing Abidjan club confirmed the news with its condolences to his relatives, without giving further details out of respect for his close people and waiting for the relevant medical tests.

In Racing Abidjan’s match against SOL FC, the Ivorian footballer covered the left flank as a winger.

As the action took place elsewhere on the field, Sylla lost his balance and fell completely out of control onto the field. One of the rival footballers was the first to notice the strange situation, shouting and gesturing toward the sideline to ask for the entry of medical assistance.

” Our defender Moustapha Sylla died tonight (Sunday) after fainting on the pitch during the match between RCA (Racing Abidjan) and Sol FC. During his evacuation to the hospital, Moustapha died.

He arrived at the club last September and I was only 21 years old.

The first unofficial versions indicate that the defender Moustapha Sylla died of sudden cardiac arrest, although the official results of the autopsy are awaited to give a formal cause of this tragedy in African football.

Racing de Abidjan has played since the 2018-2019 season in the Ivorian first division. It has a collaboration agreement with Nice, from the French league. The club was proclaimed champion of the Ivory Coast in 2020 and currently occupies the seventh position in the league table.
