(JUST IN) Naira Swap: We will Reconvene Before Election If…. – Gbajabiamila

The Speaker of the house of representative, Rep. Femi gbajabiamila has said that the house would have no option but to reconvene before the February 25th, election day if the central bank of Nigeria (CBN) failed to address the hardship Nigerians face due to naira swap Policy.

The speaker said the house would continue to monitor the CBN implementation of the Policy closely following the green chambers meeting with the CBN Governor on the issue.

The house of representatives intervened on several occasions. We summoned the CBN governor several times, but he refused to answer because we had several hard questions for him.

“It was until I issue arrest warrants before he came, and I would have signed that warrant; it would have been the first time in the history of national assembly arrest CBN Governor would be arrested, I would have done it,” he added.

He further said that many have argued about the independence of CBN and autonomy of CBN. That doesn’t make CBN above the Law, the constitution gives the house the power to issue an arrest warrant against anyone, we can summon anybody, and that was exactly house going to do until the CBN governor came.

“So we’re watching, and we’re monitoring closely. If need be we’ll reconvene the house, Even though we’re been away for our election, I’ll call the house if need be.”

Gbajabiamila also said that amidst the ongoing hardship, the Presidential candidate of APC Bola Ahmed Tinubu has identified with Nigeria and faulted the implementation of the policy at this time which necessitated the extension of the deadline for the collection of old currency.

“On the currency swap, let me explain something to you, we are very intelligent people we know how people suffer, we have paid your salary and know you cannot withdraw it, and people can’t eat, what kind of thing is that?

“But I have news for you, there’s one man who’s running for President in this country, and that man has courage and audacity. This man came boldly and identified the problem, the fifth columnist, in cooperation with PDP are the one trying to sabotage this election,” he concluded.
