Kwara Police Dismiss Three Officers Over Misconduct

 

Ilorin, Kwara State – the Kwara State Police Command has dismissed three police officers found guilty of misconduct following the tragic death of Qoyum Abdulyekeen Ishola on 4th September 2024.

The officers – Inspector Abiodun Kayode, Inspector James Emmanuel, and Sergeant Oni Philip – were charged with offenses including leaving their assigned beat, engaging in corrupt practices, and the unlawful or unnecessary exercise of authority.

In a statement released on 14th October 2024, the Police Command confirmed the officers’ dismissal, effective 4th October 2024, following an internal disciplinary trial. The command further announced that the dismissed officers would soon face court arraignment.

This action, endorsed by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, and justice. The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, CP Victor Olaiya, emphasized that such breaches of ethical conduct, especially in cases leading to the loss of life, would not be tolerated under his leadership.

The Kwara State Police Command expressed its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Qoyum Abdulyekeen Ishola and assured them that justice had been served. The Command also called on the public to remain patient and trust the legal process, reaffirming its dedication to maintaining law and order across the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, in the statement, urged citizens to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies, stressing that justice and accountability remain priorities within the Kwara State Police Command.
