Landlady Bathes Woman With Hot Water

Enugwu-Ukwu, Anambra State – A distressing incident has left Imabong William, a middle-aged woman and resident of Enugwu-Ukwu, hospitalized since August 17. The altercation, stemming from a rent dispute, escalated when her landlady, Amaka Okonkwo, allegedly attacked her with hot water mixed with pepper.

William, originally from Akwa Ibom, has been undergoing treatment for severe burns. Despite the gradual healing process, she continues to experience persistent pain. The situation has been compounded by financial difficulties, as the hospital ceased providing medications after her medical bills soared to N650,000.

In a heartfelt plea, William has reached out to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, his wife Dr. Nonye Soludo, the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, and the public for assistance. “I am a trader, I do not have money anywhere to pay the bill which was why the hospital stopped giving me any medications and treatment,” she expressed to journalists on Friday.

The accused landlady is reportedly in police custody, pending further investigation into the assault.

As William faces the dual challenge of recovery and mounting debt, her story highlights the plight of many who struggle with healthcare affordability. The community’s response to her appeal will be a testament to the spirit of solidarity and compassion in times of need.
