Lists Of All The Working Refineries In Nigeria And Their Production Capacities

In a significant development, Nigeria’s oil refining capacity has received a major boost with the completion of several modular refineries across the country. The refineries, built under the federal government’s modular refinery initiative, are expected to ramp up the nation’s refining capacity and meet local demand.

According to reports, the refineries include:

1. Edo Refinery and Petro Chemical Company – 6,000 BPSD (completed)
2. Duport Midstream – 2,500 BPD (completed)
3. Walter Smith refinery – 5,000 bpd (completed)
4. OPAC Refinery, Delta state – 10,000 bpd (completed)
5. Niger Delta Petroleum Refinery (Aradel) – 11,000 bbls/day (completed)
6. Old Port-Harcourt refinery – 60,000 barrels of oil per day (under repair)
7. Kaduna refinery – 110,000 barrels per day (bpd) (under maintenance)
8. Warri Refinery and Petrochemical Company (WRPC) – 125,000-bpd (under repair)
9. New Port-Harcourt refinery – 150,000 barrels of oil daily (under maintenance)
10. Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE – 650,000-bpd (completed)

Note that the list includes both modular refineries and traditional refineries, and also indicates their respective capacities and status (completed, under repair, or maintenance).

The federal government’s effort to improve local crude oil refining has been ongoing since 2013, with private sector players being licensed to build and own petroleum refineries. The modular refinery initiative has been a key part of this effort, with several refineries already completed and others underway.

The development is expected to reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imported petroleum products and boost the nation’s energy security.
