Lover’s Rage: Man Kills Ex-Girlfriend Days Before Her Canada Trip, Then Shoots Himself

A tragic case of domestic violence and murder-suicide rocked the Ojodu area of Lagos State on Sunday, when a man identified as Adesanya Samuel shot and killed his ex-girlfriend, Adesanya Sarah, 36, before turning the gun on himself.

Sarah, who was a successful businesswoman and mother of two, was preparing to relocate to Canada this week for a better life, according to her family. However, her dreams were cut short by her former lover, who had a history of abusing and harassing her.

Sarah’s sister, who goes by the handle @Lahyorbronze on social media, broke the news of the incident on Sunday, in a post that went viral. She said she received a call from Sarah’s neighbour, who informed her of the gruesome scene.

“I don’t know what happened or how it happened. Her neighbour called to break the news. My worst fear has come to pass,” she wrote.

She also revealed that she had reported Samuel to the police several times for assaulting and threatening Sarah, but the police did not take any action. She said Sarah had ended the relationship with Samuel, but he refused to let her go.

“Our family tried to keep her away from the guy because he always beat her up, but we don’t know what happened and when he started seeing her again. I and my family are going through pain people are dragging us on social media saying that my late sister was with the guy because of his money. Not that he was rich, no. My sister was the one feeding him and doing everything yet he kept beating her,” she said.

A graphic video that circulated on social media on Sunday showed the lifeless bodies of Sarah and Samuel on the floor in a pool of blood. The video has since been deleted by the authorities.

The spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident and said the police have launched an investigation to unravel the motive behind the murder-suicide.

“We are aware of the case,” Hundeyin said in a WhatsApp message. “We have recovered the weapon used by the suspect and we are conducting a forensic analysis. We are also interviewing the witnesses and the relatives of the deceased to establish the facts of the case.”

He also urged the public to report any case of domestic violence to the police, and assured them that the police would protect the victims and prosecute the perpetrators. He appealed to anyone with useful information to contact the nearest police station.
