Man Arrested for Alleged Attempt to Supply Arms to Bandits in Plateau

Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria — In a dramatic turn of events, Plateau State Police Command operatives apprehended a middle-aged man yesterday evening, May 29, 2024, for attempting to supply arms to suspected bandits in Jos. The suspect, who had recently arrived from Zamfara State, was caught red-handed opposite the NTA Park, where he allegedly intended to deliver the illicit weapons.

According to Ibrahim Maikwudi, Chairman of the Jos NTA Park, the suspect’s brazen actions nearly cost him his life. An enraged mob had cornered him, but timely intervention by security personnel prevented a lynching. Maikwudi recounted the incident: “Around 5 PM yesterday, the man was pacing near the NTA park, making cryptic phone calls to unknown recipients. Two vigilant bystanders sensed something amiss and alerted our security team. When they confronted the suspect, his evasive answers raised suspicions. They seized the bag he clutched tightly, and to their horror, it contained an arsenal of arms and ammunition.”

The situation escalated as the crowd attempted to mete out their own justice. Fearing for the suspect’s life, Maikwudi’s team urgently contacted the police. The suspect, now in custody, reportedly confessed that he was part of a larger operation involving multiple individuals.

The Special Investigations Bureau unit of the Police swiftly intervened, arresting the suspect and preventing a potential bloodbath. Authorities are now working to unravel the network behind this audacious arms trafficking attempt.

This shocking incident serves as a stark reminder of the growing menace posed by criminal elements in Plateau State. The authorities remain vigilant, determined to thwart any further attempts to destabilize the region. The suspect’s motives and connections are under intense scrutiny, and the investigation promises to reveal more startling revelations in the days to come.
