Man Strangled To Death Over ‘Okada’ Ownership In Ekiti

Ismailia Mohammed Ojo has on 25th April, been sentenced to death by hanging for the murder of Kareem Adu on following a dispute over an Hajue motorcycle, PRISTINEGIST reports.

Ekiti High Court Judge Olusegun Ogunyemi found Mohammed guilty of a one-count charge of murder under section 316 and punishable under section 319 of the Criminal Code Law Cap C16 Law of Ekiti State 2012.

Reporting to the court, Prosecution Witness 1, Inspector Arowosola Tunde, explained that the defendant’s alleged dispute over an ownership claim between Adu and himself led to a physical fight ending with the accused strangling Adu to death.

The defendant then reported himself in respect of the case.

Following preliminary investigations by the police and C.I.D.’s Inspectors Arowosola Tunde, Lasisi Bashiru, and Adewusi Adefisayo, the case was charged to court for prosecution upon the adduced evidence of the possible commission of the crime.

Speaking in court, Inspector Lasis Bashiru, stated that Mohammed confessed to the crime, stating that while he was taking a bath, the deceased came to pick up his motorcycle, which he had parked in front of Mohammed’s house.

He then went to the deceased’s house and found him sleeping before waking him up by jerking his neck with his cloth until he fell unconscious.

The defendant denied intending to kill his victim and claimed that the fight happened with no weapon or hard object involved. The court, however, found Mohammed guilty.

Judge O.I.O. Ogunyemi concluded that the defendant caused Adu’s death by choking him and sentenced Mohammed to death by hanging.

“On the whole, I find the defendant guilty as charged. The defendant is hereby sentenced to be hanged on the neck until you die,” Ogunyemi said.
