Missing 15-Year-Old Boy Found Dead After Drowning

 

The body of Ekine, a 15-year-old boy who went missing on Monday, was found floating on the Mbudayia river in Rumuolumeni community, Obio/Akor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

 

Ekine lived with his parents in Mile 2, a crowded area of Diobu in Port Harcourt. His parents reported his disappearance to the police on Tuesday, August 8, 2023.

 

A source who asked not to be named for security reasons told our reporter that a boat driver saw the body of the teenager on Thursday morning.

 

The source said, “We don’t know exactly what happened. The boat driver noticed his body on the river.

 

“His parents were informed and they came to the scene. They recognized him as their son who was missing. They buried him near the river.”

 

The state police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident and said that Ekine drowned.

 

She said, “According to the information I have, the boy was collecting emory packs of noodles.

 

“He went to the river to wash them. After that, he went to another place to wash his feet. That was how he drowned.”

 

She added that the police had started an investigation to find out the truth.

 

She also said that the parents of Ekine had buried him by the river and that they did not want any case.
