Mother In The Video Of ‘mummy Calm Down’ Commits Suicide In Benin

A woman who became famous after her son pleaded with her to calm down in a viral video has reportedly taken her own life in Benin.

The woman, whose name has not been disclosed, was found dead in her home on Monday, according to a Twitter user who claimed to be her neighbour.

The Twitter user, @Sammydo214, said that the woman had refused to speak to anyone about her problems and left behind three children, including the boy who featured in the video.

The video, which was posted online in July 2020, showed the boy begging his mother not to punish him for his misbehaviour. The boy repeatedly said “Mummy calm down” and “Mummy you have to rest” as he tried to persuade his mother to spare him.

The video went viral and attracted the attention of many Nigerians, including celebrities and politicians. The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, even met with the boy and his family and praised him for his courage and composure.

The cause of the woman’s suicide is still unknown, but some social media users have speculated that she might have been depressed or facing domestic violence.

The police have not confirmed the incident and no official statement has been issued by the family.
