Mother of nurse accused of killing Mohbad defends her daughter

The mother of Feyisayo Ogedengbe, the nursing assistant who is the prime suspect in the death of Afrobeats star Mohbad, has spoken out in her daughter’s defence. She said her daughter is a professional and the injection she gave Mohbad could not have killed him.

Mrs Ogedengbe told reporters that her daughter had been working as a nursing assistant for over five years and had never harmed anyone. She said she was shocked when she heard that her daughter had been arrested and accused of injecting Mohbad with drugs that caused his death.

“My daughter is innocent. She was only trying to help Mohbad who was in pain. She gave him the same injection she gives to other patients. She did not know what was wrong with him. She did not mean to harm him,” Mrs Ogedengbe said.

She also appealed to the police and the public to give her daughter a fair trial and not to judge her based on rumours and allegations.

Mohbad, whose real name is Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, died on 12 September 2023 at a hospital in Lagos after he was allegedly injected by Ms Ogedengbe at his home. He had injured his hand in a fight with another musician, Primeboy, two days earlier.

The police said Ms Ogedengbe was not qualified to give injections and had acted negligently. They also arrested Primeboy and two other friends of Mohbad for their roles in the incident.

Mohbad’s death has sparked a huge outcry among his fans, who have demanded justice and accountability. Some celebrities, including Naira Marley and Sam Larry, have also been accused of cyberbullying and harassing Mohbad before his death.

Mohbad was one of Nigeria’s most popular and promising Afrobeats artists. He had released several hit songs, including “KPK”, “Feel Good” and “Sorry”. He was married and had a five-month-old child.
