The Federal Government has been given a seven-day deadline by the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress to end the nation’s currency shortage.

If the matter was not resolved after the ultimatum expired, the labor union threatened to go on strike.

At the start of the Central Working Committee meeting of the labor union on Monday in Abuja, Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, issued the ultimatum.

Ajaero bemoaned the suffering that Nigerians were experiencing as a result of the Federal Government’s naira redesign policy and issued a warning that if nothing was done to improve the situation, workers would be told to stay off the job at the end of the seven-day period.

Ajaero also bemoaned the country’s gasoline shortage, saying that employees and Nigerians were being put to the limit.

“The Congress desires to inform the Federal Government that we will no longer keep quiet on this issue of fuel scarcity and financial crunch.

Ajaero added, “The NLC is giving the Central Bank of Nigeria and the FG seven working days, if they fail to do the necessary at the expiration of the seven days, all workers in Nigeria should stay at home,” before the meeting entered a closed-door session.
