Next Week, Certificates Of Return Will Be Issued To New NASS Members

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed that elected Senators and House of Representatives members will be issued their Certificates of Return at the International Conference Centre (ICC) Abuja on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.

The Chairman of the commission, Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this in his remarks at the meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) in Abuja on Saturday.

According to Yakubu, the return certificates for the incoming senators will arrive on Tuesday, while those for the incoming representatives will arrive on Wednesday.

The electoral umpire boss said that while the All Progressives Congress (APC) won 57 senatorial seats, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won 29, the Labour Party received six, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), each received two seats, and the Young Progressive Party (YPP), one seat, supplementary elections will be held in 46 constituencies.

According to the commission, APC won 162 of the 360 seats in the House of Representatives, followed by PDP with 102, LP with 34, NNPP with 18, APGA with 4, SPD with 2, ADC with 2, and YPP with one seat.

“In the elections held on Saturday, winners have already been announced for 423 seats in the national legislature, and in 46 constituencies, additional elections will be held. 98 of the 109 seats in the Senate have been filled.

“Seven political parties have so far gained seats in the Senate, while eight political parties have taken home 325 of the 360 seats in the House of Representatives.

“Since 1999, this National Assembly is the most varied in terms of party representation. On Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the National Collation Centre (the International Conference Centre), Abuja, Senators-elect will be given their Certificates of Return. Members of the House of Representatives-elect will receive their Certificates of Return on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the same location.

To effectively control the audience, each senator or member-elect should bring a maximum of two visitors. He stated that the complete list of all members-elect would be posted on the commission’s website.
