Nigerian Nurse Deported from UK for Praying for Dying Patient

A Nigerian nurse who worked as a carer for elderly people in the UK has been deported after she was sacked for praying for a patient who was facing a terminal condition.

The nurse, whose identity remains undisclosed, allegedly offered unsolicited prayers for an elderly patient under her care, violating the ethical standards that bind health workers in the UK.

The incident was brought to light by Dr. Olufunmilayo, a Nigerian doctor based in the UK, who shared the story on his social media account.

He wrote: “I just read the sad story of a Nigerian who came to the UK and was employed by an agency to work as a carer for elderly people. She was assigned to care for an elderly patient who was dying, and she was reported for ‘praying for the client to get better’. Yeah. She got sacked and deported.”

Dr. Olufunmilayo explained that in the UK, it is unethical to involve religion or impose one’s religious views on patients or clients, as it is seen as an abuse of trust and misuse of one’s position.

He added: “You are expected to simply do your job and focus on your job.”

The nurse’s actions sparked controversy among social media users, with some expressing sympathy for her plight, while others criticizing her for being unprofessional and insensitive.

Some users questioned the legality and morality of the deportation, while others argued that the nurse should have respected the rules and regulations of the country she was working in.

The nurse’s current whereabouts and status are unknown.
