Nigerian Senate Urges Tinubu to Intervene in Israel-Hamas Conflict

The Nigerian Senate has passed a resolution calling on President Bola Tinubu to work with the United Nations and other international partners to broker a ceasefire in the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas.

The resolution was adopted on Tuesday after a motion sponsored by Senator Adamu Aliero (PDP-Central Kebbi), who expressed concern over the humanitarian crisis and the threat of a global war resulting from the conflict.

According to Aliero, thousands of people, including women, children and aid workers, have been killed or injured in the violence that erupted on October 29, 2023, when Hamas fired rockets at Israel, prompting a retaliatory air and ground offensive by the Israeli military.

He said the Nigerian government should use its diplomatic influence to push for a Two-State solution that would guarantee the rights and security of both Israelis and Palestinians.

The motion was supported by several senators, including Barau Jibrin (Kano North), Enyinnaya Abaribe (Abia South) and Sani Musa (Niger East), who condemned the killings on both sides and called for an immediate end to the hostilities and the protection of civilians.

The Senate also commended the efforts of the African Union, the Arab League and other regional and international organizations that have been working to restore peace and stability in the Middle East.

The resolution came as South Africa and Chad recalled their diplomats and ambassadors from Israel for “consultation” in protest of the Israeli aggression, as reported by PRISTINEGIST.

The Israel-Hamas war has drawn widespread condemnation and solidarity from across the world, as millions of people have taken to the streets and social media to demand an end to the bloodshed and justice for the victims.
