NNPC, NIPCO Join Forces to Bring Affordable CNG Fuel to Nigeria in Line with Presidential Directive

In a significant move aimed at providing economical and environmentally friendly fuel options for Nigerian motorists, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited has announced a strategic collaboration with NIPCO Gas Limited.

This partnership will facilitate the establishment of cutting-edge Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations across the nation.

Meanwhile, the groundbreaking alliance between NNPC and NIPCO is set to revolutionize the CNG infrastructure in Nigeria, making it more accessible and promoting the use of cleaner energy alternatives such as CNG for buses, cars, and Keke NAPEP.

However, this shift is projected to substantially lower transportation costs and drive sustainable economic growth on a national scale.

With the NNPC-NIPCO collaboration, a network of 35 state-of-the-art CNG stations will be developed across the country, including three pivotal Mother stations.

Nevertheless, the operational capacity of these stations is estimated to cater to over 200,000 vehicles daily, marking a remarkable reduction in fuel expenses for Nigerians and cutting down overall transportation costs.

This transformative initiative will be executed in two phases. Meanwhile, the initial phase will encompass the establishment of 21 CNG stations, specifically designed to support intra-city transportation needs, with completion anticipated by the first quarter of 2024.

Subsequently, the second phase will encompass the deployment of 35 CNG stations catering to inter-city travel requirements, expected to be operational by late 2024. NNPC Retail, as a complementary effort, plans to introduce an additional 56 stations across Nigeria.

NIPCO Gas Limited, renowned for its operation of 14 CNG stations in Nigeria and its conversion of over 7,000 vehicles to CNG operation, brings its technical expertise and extensive industry experience to fortify the success of this initiative, magnifying its positive impact on the national economy.

This endeavor harnesses Nigeria’s abundant natural gas resources, offering a plethora of advantages to its citizens. Beyond cost-effective fuel, benefits include diminished transportation expenses, reduced carbon emissions, the establishment of new business value chains, and the generation of employment opportunities.

NNPC Limited is poised to welcome further participation from private sector entities, particularly oil marketing companies, to foster wider CNG adoption and accessibility.

In alignment with its commitment to deliver dependable energy solutions while continuously contributing to Nigeria’s prosperity, NNPC Limited looks ahead to a promising future alongside its collaborative partners.
