Not Just Religions But Tangible Efforts, Prof. Oloyede Challenges Nigeria

The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, highlighted the disparity between religious adherence and productive action among Nigerians, urging citizens to harness the country’s vast resources for national development.

Addressing attendees at the First Aare Sulaiman Afolabi Ogunlayi Ramadan Lecture in Ikole Ekiti, Ekiti State, Prof. Oloyede challenged the prevalent notion of religiosity in Nigeria, emphasizing the need for tangible efforts to drive progress.

However, he underscored the tendency for many Nigerians to prioritize prayers over hard work, cautioning against complacency in the pursuit of success.

The JAMB Registrar called upon Nigerians to leverage the nation’s abundant agricultural potential as a catalyst for transformation. Highlighting Nigeria’s vast arable land, abundant water resources, and favorable weather conditions, Prof. Oloyede urged citizens to seize the opportunity to cultivate diverse crops and bolster food security.

Represented by Prof. Rafiu Adebayo, the Provost of Federal College of Education, Iwo, Osun State, Prof. Oloyede stressed the transformative power of religion when coupled with proactive action.

Nevertheless, he urged citizens to channel their faith towards practical endeavors, emphasizing that religion, if utilized effectively, could serve as a solution to societal challenges.

The lecture, themed “Duties of Muslim Citizens in National Development,” served as a platform for introspection and dialogue on the role of religion in shaping individual behavior and national progress. It underscored the imperative for Nigerians to transcend religious rituals and embrace initiatives that promote socio-economic advancement.

In his closing remarks, Prof. Oloyede reiterated the potential for religion to serve as a unifying force and catalyst for positive change. He urged Nigerians to seize the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to national development, emphasizing the need for collective effort and commitment to building a prosperous future for all.

As Nigerians reflect on the intersection of religion and development, Prof. Oloyede’s call to action resonates as a timely reminder of the importance of translating faith into tangible outcomes.

With concerted efforts and a renewed commitment to productive action, Nigeria can harness its vast potential and chart a path toward inclusive growth and prosperity.
