NOUN Terminates Law Program, Putting Future of 1,500 Students at Risk

The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has decided to end its law program, leaving over 1,500 final-year students uncertain about their future.

The university’s senate voted to terminate the program at the end of the 2023 second semester, according to documents. Affected students have reached out to the House of Representatives for assistance.

Despite the efforts of the students and the House of Representatives, the situation remains unresolved. The students, who have invested about N3 million each in their legal education at NOUN, now risk not graduating.

This is not the first problem NOUN has had. Students have previously reported having trouble getting graduation certificates and the university not holding graduation ceremonies, leaving them without proof of their academic accomplishments.

The university management’s decision to scrap the law program was made without prior notification to the students, who are frustrated and worried about their academic future.
