Ododo Emerges Winner of Kogi APC Gubernatorial Primary Election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) held its gubernatorial primary election in Kogi State on Friday, with former Auditor General for Local Governments in the State, Ahmed Usman Ododo, emerging as the winner.

Ododo secured a total of 78,704 votes, beating six other contestants in the governorship race by a wide margin.

The primary election was a direct one, and the wide margin of victory by Ododo showcased his popularity among APC members in the State.

The other six contestants, including the state’s deputy governor, Edward Onoja, and Governor Yahaya Bello’s Chief of Staff, Pharm Mohammed Asuku, had all withdrawn from the contest on the eve of the election.

Out of the seven contestants, Ododo emerged as the clear winner, with Mohammed Ozigi Salami coming in as the distant runner-up with 1,506 votes.

Senator Smart Adeyemi scored the least number of votes with only 311 votes. In total, 83,419 votes were cast in the election.

Announcing the results on behalf of the chairman of the panel, Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State, Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon, the secretary of the Kogi State APC Primary Election Committee, declared Ododo as the winner of the gubernatorial primary election.

The victory sets the stage for Ododo to take on other candidates from opposing political parties in the State’s upcoming gubernatorial election.
