TO TAKE THE MANTLE OF LEADERSHIP: MOVING IT FORWARD, SHUNNING THE BAD SHAFTS AND PROMOTING THE IMAGE OF THE STUDENTS’ UNION AND THE SCHOOL AT LARGE.
I begin In the name of God, the Most Beneficient, the Most Merciful.
I will like to tap from the words of wisdom embedded in the book of ROBERT GREENE: Absorb the spirit of the times, reverse course, and keep the mind moving.
Fellow Unilorites, sometimes you have to shake yourself up, break free from the hold of the past, think yourself as an army that must adapt to the complexity and chaos of modern war by becoming more fluid and maneuverable.
I have summoned all my energy, activated courage and a serving heart to take the mantle of leadership as I declare my intention to contest for the office of the STUDENTS’ UNION PRESIDENT of the better by far citadel of learning for the 2022/2023 academic session, without any form of compromise on the good legacies and standards set to be inherited from the incumbent administration and bringing in new innovations, exhaustive technological advancement, tremendously improving students experience, human capital resources and of-course a taste of new leadership exposure at the Kaduna Nzeogwu building.
Distinguished Unilorites, it is pertinent to note that the very essence of Leadership is that you have to have a vision as 90% of leadership is the ability to communicate what the people wants, and all of these cannot be achieved with muscles but the ability to lead the people because you cannot blow an uncertain trumpet.
It is important to emphatically state that my personal interest does not drive me in this regard but the thirst, zeal and desire to take the mantle of LEADERSHIP; moving it FORWARD, shunning the BAD SHAFTS AND PROMOTING the image of the STUDENTS’ UNION and our citadel of learning (University of Ilorin) at large.
Against all odds, challenges and obstacles I have come to present myself as the best candidate to pilot the affairs of our union with my body, my mind and my soul simply because I HAVE A DREAM, just like Martin Luther King Jr in 1963 but now in the context of University of Ilorin.
With all sense of humility, modesty and gratitude, I have come to you to request for your support, advice and prayers as I, OWOYEMI QUDUS ADEBAYO, a 300level Student of Statistics department has come forward to present myself so that I can serve every students leaving behind none, I present to you all the mandatory HUMBLENESS IN LEADERSHIP AGENDA which I fondly call the RENEWED_HOPE of the better by far University, this wonderful project and all of these dreams can only be achieved with the support, advice and prayers of all Unilorites in both permanent site and college of health sciences.
I was privileged to serve as the welfare secretary of the Nigerian Association of Physical Sciences Students (NAPHSS) in the 2020/2021 administration which I ensure I was and still accessible to every single entity of the constituent. Some of my achievements as the welfare secretary is erecting OPERATION MAKE PHYSICAL SCIENCES CLEAN O.M.P.C 1.0 (providing necessary materials which are still in existence) creating public awareness on how students can manage and control their mental health, and also the writer and author of THE VANQUISH a mental health awareness handbook for students, which discusses the problems and solutions to MENTAL ILLNESS.
SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE DEVELOPERS GIVE THE RIGHT ASSISTANCE TO PEOPLE; some of the most capable in an organization never utilize their greatest strengths. They may be locked into what management considers important job, and they may do them well. But they may never get an opportunity to do what they can do best. This is why I will be including every Unilorites in my administration, making sure to honor everyone’s opinions and adopting the important ones and unleashing potentials from some of the project I will be bringing onboard if elected.
Importantly, I seek refuge against all evil eye and seek support from the Lord Almighty against all odds from now and forever. I pledge to serve the people with integrity, honesty, and transparency. I will put the interest and needs of all UNILORITEs above my personal interest as this is what the HUMBLENESS IN LEADERSHIP AGENDA stands for.
In conclusion, the true test of a society is how it treats its most vulnerable members and its disenfranchised. I, OWOYEMI QUDUS ADEBAYO upon emergence will create an environment where everyone feels valued and has opportunities to thrive and create an environment where THE POOR CAN BREATH!
May God Almighty, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things that I can, and the wisdom to know the difference because above all, God factor is paramount.
GREATEST UNILORITES, I call on you all to see what I see, to feel what I feel and to assist me with your support, prayers and wishes. Tell a friend to tell a friend to VOTE FOR Mr. HUMBLE!
