Pass Law Forcing Civil Servants To Marry Second Wife – Cleric Urges Lawmakers

A renowned Islamic cleric, Sheikh Aminu Baba Waziri, urged Nigeria lawmakers to pass a law forcing civil servants on Level 12 to take additional wives.

Baba Waziri bemoaned the large number of available women in society who are in need of husbands and pleaded with men to take them as wives.

In his Friday prayer at the Takur Commercial Mosque in Dutse, Jigawa State, the cleric made the appeal.

Despite the abundance of women, he claimed that men, particularly those who have already been married, are not taking on more wives.

The cleric highlighted that marriage is one of Islam’s most significant pillars and that both the Quran and the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) Sunnah highlight its significance and the worth it possesses in Allah’s eyes.

Citing the Holy Quran, he said: “Allah says in Chapter 4:3 “You fear that you shall not be able to deal justly with the orphans, marry women of your choice, two, or three, or four; but if you fear that you shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one, or that which your right hands possess. That will be more suitable to prevent you from doing injustice.”

The cleric urged lawmakers to pass a law that would compel civil servants on Level 12 who have only one wife to add another before their next promotion.
