PH Refinery Receives 1 Million Barrels Of Crude, Gets License For Take-Off

Port Harcourt, Nigeria – In a significant milestone, the Old Port Harcourt Refinery has received 1 million barrels of crude oil, paving the way for the commencement of refining activities. The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPCL) supplied the crude oil in two tranches, with the latest delivery arriving last Wednesday.

The refinery, which underwent mechanical completion in December last year, is now poised to start production. The NNPCL is targeting a phased commencement, with August eyed as a possible start date for partial refining activities.

The 1 million barrels of crude oil are expected to yield an estimated 170 million litres of refined petroleum products, including petrol and other derivatives. The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority has issued the necessary license for the refinery’s operation.

The $1.5 billion PHRC rehabilitation project is a national endeavor, covering engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning phases. As the refinery prepares to roar to life, Nigerians eagerly await the impact on the country’s petroleum products supply.
