An alleged killer, Friday Samson, has been arrested by the Plateau State Police Command in connection to the murder of Ruth Bako.

Ruth was raped and killed in December 2022 at the Farin Gada area of Jos North local government area in the State.

Following the discovery of Ruth’s corpse near a car wash in the Farin Gada area on a Sunday morning, the community was thrown into turmoil.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo, at a press conference held at the Police Headquarters in Jos, Samson was identified as the culprit after operatives of Laranto Division of the Command led by CSP Pam Ishaya apprehended Ephraim Emmanuel with the victim’s phone.

Upon interrogation, Emmanuel revealed that Samson sold him the phone.

Upon further investigation, the suspect, Samson confessed to having raped and killed Ruth.

Samson, an assistant choirmaster in a church who works as a security guard at a petrol station, stated that he attacked Ruth when she was coming from work one night and he made advances to her that were rebuffed.

He stated that it was ‘wickedness of the heart’ that led him to commit the heinous act.

After raping and stabbing the young woman, Samson subsequently took her phone and held onto it for a month before selling it to Emmanuel.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Batholomew Onyeka, praised the efforts of the police operatives and admonished the general public to be on alert and report any suspicious individuals in their environment.

Investigations into the matter are still ongoing.
