Nigerian Police Warn Against Dangerous Pranks on Social Media

The Nigerian Police Force has issued a warning to social media users who engage in pranks that could endanger themselves or others. In a video released by the Nigerian Police Force, the police said that some of the pranks are becoming too risky and might need regulations soon.

The video showed clips of some popular pranksters who staged fake robberies, kidnappings, accidents and fights in public places, causing panic and confusion among unsuspecting bystanders. Some of the pranksters also provoked violent reactions from their victims, who did not know they were being filmed for entertainment purposes.

The police said that such pranks are not only irresponsible and insensitive, but also illegal and punishable under the law. The police warned that anyone who engages in such pranks could face charges of breach of peace, assault, public nuisance, false alarm, impersonation, or even attempted murder, depending on the severity of the prank.

Police also urged the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or call the emergency number 112. The police said that they are committed to ensuring the safety and security of all Nigerians, and will not tolerate any acts that could jeopardize public order and peace.

The video has sparked mixed reactions from social media users, with some supporting the police’s stance and others criticizing it as an infringement on freedom of expression and creativity. Some also questioned the credibility and effectiveness of the police in dealing with more serious crimes and challenges facing the country.

Pranks are a common form of entertainment on social media platforms, especially among young people who seek to attract views and followers. However, some pranks have gone too far and resulted in injuries, deaths, lawsuits and arrests in different parts of the world.
