President Tinubu Mediates Between Warring Wike And Fubara

President Bola Tinubu has stepped in to resolve the rift between Governor Simi Fubara of Rivers State and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who have been at loggerheads over the political affairs of the state.

The President intervened on Tuesday during the Police Council meeting, which both governors attended as members. He used the opportunity to broker peace and dialogue between the two former allies, who have been exchanging accusations and counter-accusations in the media.

The Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, who is also the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum (PDP-GF), disclosed the President’s mediation efforts to State House correspondents after the meeting presided over by the President at the presidential villa in Abuja.

Mohammed said that the President showed leadership and statesmanship by bringing the two governors together and urging them to work for the interest of their state and the nation. He also commended the President for not interfering with the judicial process involving some PDP governors, saying that the opposition governors have resolved to work with him because he has shown good faith.

The peace moves by the President followed the confirmation of Kayode Egbetokun as the substantive Inspector General of Police, IGP, by the Council. Egbetokun, who hails from Kwara State, was appointed by the President in February 2023 as the acting IGP, following the retirement of his predecessor, Mohammed Adamu.
