African leaders met with President Putin recently in St. Petersburg, Russia. The meeting was part of a peace mission aimed at ending the war between Russia and Ukraine.
After the meeting, it was reported that Putin could be seen laughing, hugging and tapping the shoulders of the African leaders which could signify a friendly gesture or agreement made.
The meeting was attended by a group of leaders from African countries. They travelled to Russia on a self-styled “peace mission” after visiting Ukraine on Friday. The delegation made the trip to St. Petersburg to attend a business forum on Saturday.
The meeting has been met with mixed reactions from people around the world. Some have praised the move as a step towards peace while. However, others have criticized it as an attempt by Putin to gain more influence in Africa.
The war between Russia and Ukraine has been ongoing since 2014 and has resulted in thousands of deaths and displacement of people. The conflict has also led to economic sanctions against Russia by Western countries.
