Reverend Commits Suicide As Adultery Leaks On Church’s Whatsapp

A senior church leader in Zimbabwe has taken his own life after an audio recording of his illicit affair with a young woman was leaked on a WhatsApp group.

Reverend Oscar Mukahanana, the Harare East District Superintendent of the United Methodist Church (UMC), was found dead on Friday, October 20, 2023, in an apparent suicide.

According to local media reports, Mukahanana had a secret relationship with a female youth in his church, and the audio of their intimate conversation was exposed on the church’s WhatsApp group.

In the audio, Mukahanana reportedly expressed his satisfaction with their sexual encounter and mentioned that it happened before the woman’s menstrual cycle.

The audio went viral among the church members, who mocked and ridiculed the District Superintendent for his adultery. Some of them even created memes and forwarded them to other groups.

Mukahanana, who felt humiliated and embarrassed by the scandal, could not bear the shame and decided to end his life.

The UMC Harare District confirmed the death of the cleric in a statement and asked the church to support his family with prayers.

“It is with heavy heart to announce to you the untimely death of our Beloveth District Superintendent Rev Oscar Mukahanana of the Harare East District,” the statement read.

“The Office of the Bishop shall be informing the church of developments and funeral arrangements. As a Church, you are being cordially requested to support the Mukahanana family through your prayers.”
