Senate Presidency: “Even Tinubu Can’t Stop Me” – Yari

Former Zamfara governor and senator-elect Abdul’Aziz Yari has declared his intention on Saturday to contest for the Senate presidency.

He said he would not step down for anyone, including the party’s preferred candidate, former Akwa-Ibom governor Godswill Akpabio.

Yari made this known on Saturday in Abuja, when he met with the leaders of the Tinubu/Shettima Network (TSN), a group led by Kailani Muhammad.

He said the election of the Senate president would be determined by the constitution and not by any external influence.

He said, “The constitution is very clear on how to choose our leader within ourselves and not for anyone.” He added that the senators would exercise their constitutional rights on that day.

Yari’s statement came after some of his rivals, such as Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi and Senator Ali Ndume of Borno, had withdrawn from the race and endorsed Akpabio.

Akpabio had also received the backing of President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
