In a recent directive aimed at enhancing the quality of football infrastructure, seven prominent Nigerian football clubs have been instructed to address defects in their stadiums.
The affected clubs include Abia Warriors, Sunshine Stars, Shooting Stars, and Kwara United. Also on the list are Niger Tornadoes, Plateau United, and the newly promoted El-Kanemi Warriors.
The warning was issued by Gbenga Elegbeye, the Chairman of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL). These clubs have been specifically ordered to upgrade their playing turfs, with the clear mandate to ensure compliance or face the prospect of playing their home matches on alternative grounds. This move is part of a broader effort to elevate the standard of football pitches across the country, ensuring that they meet the necessary requirements for professional play.
Failure to adhere to this directive could result in significant logistical challenges for the clubs involved, as they would be compelled to find and use other suitable venues for their matches.
