Super Eagles: Ibrahim Babangida Dies In Accident, Tijani Babangida & Wife Hospitalized

In a harrowing turn of events, Tijani Babangida, Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games gold medallist and esteemed President of the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria (PFAN), was involved in a catastrophic car accident on Thursday that tragically claimed the life of his younger brother, Ibrahim Babangida, as reported by PRISTINEGIST.

The calamity unfolded along the notorious Kaduna-Zaria Road, where details of the crash remain limited. Emmanuel Babayaro, a former teammate and the General Secretary of PFAN, disclosed the grim news in a heartfelt statement, urging the community to unite in prayer for Babangida and his family during this trying time.

“Ibrahim Babangida, his younger brother, succumbed to the injuries sustained in the accident instantly, while Mr. President (Babangida) and his family were rushed to the hospital,” Babayaro conveyed in his announcement.

Upon contact, Babayaro affirmed the incident’s occurrence, stating, “The accident transpired as they journeyed to Zaria from Kaduna. His brother Babangida’s life was claimed by the impact. The accident took place this afternoon, and his wife was also caught in the unfortunate event.”

Currently, Tijani Babangida is receiving medical attention at Shika Hospital in Zaria. Miraculously, he remains conscious and is under careful observation, offering a glimmer of hope amidst the darkness.

Ibrahim Babangida, aged 47, was not only Tijani’s brother but a retired footballer in his own right. A former member of the victorious 1993 FIFA U-17 World Cup-winning Golden Eagles squad in Japan, he had an illustrious career, gracing the fields for Bank of The North, Stationery Stores, and Katsina United, before venturing abroad to join Dutch side Volendam in 1997.
