Switzerland, Brazil Qualify as Aboubakar sees red for celebration

Brazil suffered a huge World Cup upset as Vincent Aboubakar scored a late winner to earn Cameroon a famous victory in Lusail – even if it was not enough to secure them a spot in the last-16.

Tite made nine changes to his starting line-up with qualification to the knockouts already secured.

The 30-year-old headed home in the 91st-minute to condemn the world’s No.1 side and tournament favourites to their first defeat, but it was not enough to change the outcome of Group G, with Brazil remaining top and Cameroon eliminated after Switzerland beat Serbia 3-2.

Nonetheless, a dramatic late win against the five-time world champions in Qatar would always likely stir emotions, and when Aboubakar directed his finish past Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson, the striker rightly celebrated wildly, taking his shirt off before taking in the atmosphere.

That would have been all well and good, had the former Porto and Besiktas man not already been yellow carded earlier in the game, leaving referee Ismail Elfath with no option but to end the celebrations early and send Aboubakar off.
