Terrorists Murder BUK Student, Hold Brothers Hostage in Abuja

A final year student of the Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Talatu Salihu, was brutally killed by terrorists who abducted her and her two brothers from their home in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city.

According to PRISTINEGIST, Talatu was studying Library and Information Science and had a bright future ahead of her. She was murdered after her family failed to pay the ransom of over N100million demanded by the terrorists.

Talatu’s close friends in school confirmed her death to SaharaReporters on Wednesday, expressing shock and grief over the loss of their beloved friend.

“She was kidnapped together with two of her siblings in Abuja and the kidnappers demanded over N100million for their ransom which their parents could not afford. They killed her because her family was not able to meet up with the payment of the ransom,” one of Talatu’s friends said.

The friend also revealed that the terrorists were still holding Talatu’s brothers captive and threatening to kill them if the ransom was not paid soon.

This is not the first case of kidnapping and abduction in Abuja, as SaharaReporters had reported several incidents in the past few months that had instilled fear among the residents.

For instance, an intelligence report from the Nigeria Police Force disclosed that operatives intercepted a phone call between kidnappers in Karu, a community near Abuja, and Kabusa area in the Federal Capital Territory, planning an operation on Wednesday morning.

The intelligence report, which was sent to SaharaReporters by a military source attached to the intelligence unit, noted that the kidnapping operation was “scheduled to come in on Tuesday or January 17, 2024.”

The report urged the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the security agencies.

The Nigerian government has been facing criticism for its inability to curb the rising insecurity and terrorism in the country, especially in the northern region where Boko Haram and other militant groups have been wreaking havoc for years.

The killing of Talatu Salihu and the abduction of her brothers have once again highlighted the need for urgent action and intervention from the authorities to protect the lives and properties of the citizens.
