The road to breaking 40-year-old UNILORIN jinx with Azeez Alamu

Can we meet you?

I’m Azeez Alamu, I attained 27yrs of age today 21st December, 2022. I preferred to be addressed as a citizen of Nigeria hence the nickname Mr. Nigeria but my late father hailed from Ìbàdàn, Oyo State and my beloved Mum hails from Iwo, Osun State both from Southwest part of Nigeria.

Did you ever wish to be a scholar or a first class student?

From the beginning, Allah has always made me one, Alhamdulillah (All praises be to Him Alone)

How did you feel being a first class student?

I feel grateful to Allah because I don’t have two heads, so I call it Predestination.

We learnt that you are the first-ever first class student in the department of Political Science, what is the secret?

Allah is the secret, if he didn’t destined it, it won’t happen. He says in Chapter 36 of the Qur’an “If He intends a thing to Be, it’s Only for Him to say Be and it’ll be”.

Do you wish to become a lecturer?

My success is Only by Allah, if he’s destined me to be one, I’ll be but I’ve been a very proud passionate TEACHER.

What can you say about the department (political science)?

It’s a longtime dream to study Political Science. I see the department as my haven of love. I wasn’t Cleared to the department when I gained admission even with a UTME score of 294 and 76% in Post UTME, I approached a Lecturer I’ve never met before in my life; Dr. Moruf Adebiyi by name and he walked me to the HOD and I was cleared immediately having confirmed I’m qualified. I feel loved since first day, so I’m very proud of the department. I love my Lecturers, my senior and junior colleagues, mentees and mentors from the Department. Everyone is destined to be great, may the Department keep growing great.

Now, as a scholar of political science, what can be done to solve Nigeria socio-economic problems?

I’m just a fresh graduate of Political Science, I can’t know more than my Professors. I believe they know better. But as an aspiring Public Policy Analyst, I’ll say DISCIPLINE is the remedy.

Advise other students who wish to graduate in fly colors like you.

I always say I see motivation in what others see as intimidation. Never be intimidated by anyone’s doing, do your thing perfectly right, be passionate about it and be religious because all success is Only by His predestination.
