Tinubu Ready To Fire Any Minister Over Incompetence- Ajuri

President Bola Tinubu’s media and publicity adviser, Ajuri Ngelale, says incompetence will cost any cabinet member their job. The president swore in 45 ministers on August 21. He tasked them to deliver his “renewed hope” agenda.

Ngelale spoke on Sunrise Daily, a Channels Television programme, on Monday. He said the president set benchmarks and timelines for the ministers. He said not meeting the goals would lead to dismissal.

“President Bola Tinubu wants results. He says ‘these are your benchmarks, I know what I want you to achieve, I’m not expecting you to just come up with some plan when you get there. I’m telling you the time frame within which I expect you to achieve’,” he said.

“And if you don’t, there are consequences. He’s ready to fire a minister at the drop of a dime if he is not getting what he wants. Absolutely.”

Ngelale explained why the president appointed many ministers. He said the president valued specialisation for better performance. “He saw an urgent need for hands-on specialisation in the federal government,” he said.

“He wanted to slim down the portfolio and enhance specialisation. For example, Musa Dangiwa will handle housing. His experience in reforming the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria fits well with the housing sector reform. That’s his only focus.

“He doesn’t need to worry about power or works. The president said if he puts a minister in place who has a sole focus, there is no excuse for failure. And then we can hold them accountable.”
