Tinubu Signs Data Protection Bill Into Law

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed the Nigeria Data Protection Bill, 2023, into law.

A legal foundation for the preservation of personal data and the practice of data protection in Nigeria is provided by the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.

This was said by Vincent Olatunji, national commissioner of the Nigerian Data Protection Bureau (NDPB), at the validation workshop for the NDPD Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan (SRAP) in Abuja.

On Tuesday, April 4, 2023, former President Muhammadu Buhari forwarded a letter containing the measure to the Senate and House of Representatives for review and approval.

“Now an act, the new law establishes the Nigeria Data Protection Commission and replaces the NDPB established by former President Buhari in February 2022.”

A national commissioner will lead the commission with the responsibility of regulating the processing of personal information.
