Top Nigerian Squash Player Rofiat Lauds Governor Abdulrahman for New Development In Sports

Ilorin, Kwara State – Abdulazeez Rofiat, a professional squash player who was once ranked number one and currently ranked number two in Nigeria, praised Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for inaugurating a new international-level squash court facility, expressing optimism about its positive impact on the sport and young players in Kwara State.

“The new courts are a game-changer for us,” Rofiat said. “Having such facilities in Kwara will definitely improve and increase the level of playing, especially among the young ones who aspire to reach professional levels.”

The facility, boasting eight courts of international standards, promises to make training more accessible and effective for athletes. “With these courts, training will become much easier for us. The availability of multiple courts means we can have more self-training sessions and structured practices without the previous limitations,” Rofiat noted.

Rofiat highlighted the historical significance of this development, thanking the state’s leadership. “A special thanks to His Excellency for this huge achievement in the history of Kwara squash. This is a monumental step forward for our sport in the state.”

The benefits of the new facility extend beyond just training. “Kwara has always provided a strong foundation for grassroots players, even with our previous twin courts. Now, imagine the progress we can make with eight courts!” she exclaimed.

The new courts are expected to boost the local squash scene by attracting more players and supporters. “There will be more turnout both from new players interested in playing and from support crews who are curious about what’s happening in this impressive facility. This will definitely increase the sport’s visibility and popularity,” Rofiat added.

Rofiat also mentioned the need for continued support for players, particularly in terms of financial assistance for local and international tournaments. “Monetary support for players traveling for tournaments is crucial. This new facility will likely encourage more investments and sponsorships.”

With these new courts, Kwara State is set to host more successful tournaments, drawing participants and spectators from across the country and beyond. “I’m confident that with these new courts, any tournament held here will be a huge success,” Rofiat concluded.

This development marks a new era for squash in Kwara State, fostering a supportive environment for current players and inspiring the next generation of squash champions.

However, she commended Coach Bola Mogaji, the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission for his unmeasurable efforts in developing squash and other sports in Kwara State.
