Truck driver kills motor boy sleeping under his vehicle in Lagos
A tragic accident claimed the life of a motor boy who was sleeping under a truck on the Oshodi – Apapa Expressway on Sunday afternoon.
According to PRISTINEGIST, the incident happened around 2:30 pm near Sunrise, when the driver of the truck with registration number T-1360LA crushed the motor boy as he tried to join other trucks heading to Tin Can Port Gate, Apapa.
The driver of the truck, which was carrying a container, fled the scene after the accident, but was later arrested by officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), who handed him over to the police.
The Public Relations Officer of LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, said in a statement that the driver did not know that the motor boy was sleeping under his truck when he moved it. He said the motor boy was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
The Acting General Manager of LASTMA, Bakare Oki, expressed his sympathy to the family of the deceased and urged truck drivers to always check their vehicles before moving them. He said this would prevent such avoidable tragedies in the future.
