Valentine’s Day Brawl: Two Women Arraigned For Fighting Over Ex-Husband

Two women have been arraigned before a Zonal Chief Magistrates’ Court in New Karu, Nasarawa State, for allegedly engaging in a violent fight over a man on Valentine’s Day.

The accused, Alice Odey, 27, and Blessing Onagbulum, 39, who are both residents of New Nyanya, Karu, Nasarawa State, were charged with three counts of breach of public peace, defamation of character and causing harm.

They pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The court heard that the duo were arrested and taken to the New Nyanya Police Station on February 14, 2024, after they attacked each other with a broken bottle and a stone, leaving them with serious injuries.

The prosecutor, Inspector Shehu Ndam, told the court that the fight was triggered by a dispute over a man, who was the former husband of Onagbulum and the current lover of Odey.

He said Onagbulum accused Odey of snatching her ex-husband, while Odey accused Onagbulum of using black magic to shrink his manhood.

He said Odey poured hot water on Onagbulum and stabbed her in the head, jaw and neck with a broken bottle.

He said Onagbulum’s 16-year-old daughter, who witnessed the attack, picked up a stone and hit Odey in the eye.

He said the offences contravened sections 113, 139 and 245 of the Penal Code.

The judge, Godiya Bawa, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 each with one surety each in like sum.

She adjourned the case until March 15, 2024, for further hearing.
