Viewers’ Dilemma: Multichoice Slams Subscribers with Steep Price Hike!

In a move that’s bound to stir up the already simmering pot of economic challenges, Multichoice Nigeria has dropped the bombshell of a significant price hike across its DStv and GOtv subscription packages. The announcement, which came on Wednesday, has set the stage for the new rates to kick in from the start of May 2024.

The sticker shock is real – the DStv Premium bouquet will now set viewers back by N37,000, up from N29,500; while the Compact+ package jumps to N25,000 from N19,800. The Compact and Confam bouquets aren’t spared either, with increases to N15,700 and N9,300 respectively.

GOtv users are in for a similar ride, with the Supa+ package leaping to N15,700 and the Supa option climbing to N9,600. The Max and Jolli packages also see upward adjustments to N7,200 and N4,850.

Multichoice, in a statement laden with empathy, acknowledged the potential strain on its customers, attributing the decision to the escalating costs of running its operations. Despite the hike, the company reaffirms its dedication to delivering top-notch entertainment and viewing experiences.

This latest price revision marks the fourth within a year, following three previous increases in 2023, with the most recent taking effect last November. The timing is particularly poignant as Nigerians grapple with the fallout from fuel subsidy removals and the soaring cost of living affecting essentials like food and transport.
