VIRGIN BRIDE GETS CASH BONUS FROM HUSBAND AFTER PASSING PURITY TEST
LAGOS, Nigeria – A Gambian bride, Meta Mbye, has received a cash gift of D28,000 (about N300,000) from her husband after passing a virginity test on their wedding night.
According to a relative, the husband was overjoyed by the result and rewarded his wife by placing the money under her pillow. “The husband was so happy that was why he gave her D28,000, which was placed under her pillow,” the relative said.
A video of the family’s celebration was shared on TikTok, where it went viral. The video shows the bride’s relatives dancing and singing praises to her for proving her purity. Many people were surprised by the outcome, as they had assumed that the bride was not a virgin because of her “baddie” lifestyle.
The practice of virginity testing is controversial and widely condemned by human rights groups, who say it is a form of gender-based violence and discrimination. However, some cultures and communities still uphold it as a way of ensuring the bride’s chastity and honour.
The bride and the groom have not commented on the video or the cash gift.
