While My Father, MKO Abiola Was In Jail, My Brother, Kola Was Dating IBB’s Daughter – Abdulmumuni Abiola

In a stunning revelation, Abdulmumuni Abiola, son of the late democracy icon Chief MKO Abiola, has disclosed that his brother, Kola Abiola, was romantically involved with the daughter of Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (IBB), the very dictator who annulled his father’s election and imprisoned him. This bombshell came to light during Abdulmumuni’s appearance on the podcast ‘Mic On’, hosted by Seun Okinbaloye of Channels TV.

The late MKO Abiola, who won the June 12, 1993 presidential election, was detained in 1994 after declaring himself President and subsequently died in custody on July 7, 1998. During this period of political strife, Abdulmumuni alleges that Kola was entangled in a relationship with the offspring of his father’s political adversary.

The plot thickens as Abdulmumuni reflects on the assassination of his mother, Alhaja Kudirat Abiola, in June 1996—a crime linked to the government of General Sani Abacha. He expresses deep disappointment in his elder brother’s actions and questions Kola’s suitability for leadership, citing mismanagement of their father’s legacy and questioning his ability to govern Nigeria.

This family saga unfolds against a backdrop of national unrest and unfulfilled democratic aspirations, leaving many Nigerians to ponder the implications of such personal betrayals on the larger quest for justice and democracy.
