Wike begs for forgiveness after imposing “FAILED” governor on Rivers people

Wike apologises to Rivers people for imposing Fubara as governor

The former governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has expressed regret for endorsing his successor, Siminalayi Fubara, in the 2023 governorship election.

Wike, who is now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, said he was sorry for forcing Fubara on the people of Rivers State, who have been dissatisfied with his performance.

Wike and Fubara have been at loggerheads since the latter assumed office, with accusations of corruption, incompetence, and betrayal flying between them.

President Bola Tinubu had intervened to reconcile the two former allies, but the peace deal did not last long.

Speaking to his supporters in Rivers at the weekend, Wike admitted that he made a mistake by choosing Fubara as his successor.

“I’m not to say I’m perfect or that every decision I’ve taken is right. I’m a human,” he said.

“I may have made decisions that may not be palatable to everybody but in my position I was influenced to accept it.

“And you accepted it and it turned out to be bad, please forgive me. Forgive me,” the minister pleaded.

The apology has elicited mixed reactions from the people of Rivers State, some of whom have accepted it, while others have dismissed it as insincere and self-serving.
