Wike On Melaye For Governor: Are We Joking!
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed Dino Melaye’s ambition to become the governor of Kogi State.
In a live interview with channels Tv today, The governor made the comments while chatting with journalists in Port Harcourt.
Wike stated that Melaye would not be able to win the election in Kogi State if he were given the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) governorship ticket.
Dino MelayeWike questioned why the party would choose to field Melaye over other seasoned candidates.
Wike further stated that Melaye does not have the necessary experience to govern the state.
If the PDP fields Melaye, Wike warned that it would harm the party’s chances of winning the election.
Wike emphasised that just because a candidate is from a particular location does not guarantee electoral success.
Wike said that he would not participate in the PDP campaign if the party gave the ticket to Melaye.
When asked why the party was trying to manipulate the selection process in favour of one candidate, Wike stated that he was unhappy with how the PDP was handling the selection process.
Wike further advised the PDP not to select a candidate based on sympathy or regionalism.
He said that the PDP should choose a candidate who can unify the people of Kogi and develop a strong community.
Wike said that the PDP would have a much better chance of winning the election if it chose a candidate who is acceptable to the masses.
Finally, Wike questioned Senator Dino Melaye’s ability to lead in Kogi State.
He described Melaye as a controversial figure who has also had legal and ethical issues. “Are we joking?”
Wike stated that Melaye does not have the necessary exposure and experience to govern the state.
He also said that it would be a grave error for the PDP to field Melaye in the election.
